The Squire Program: Beginner Fencing for Ages 11–18
It's Never Too Late to Draw your Sword
Think you need to start a sport as a child to become proficient? Not with fencing! Ages 11+ are an ideal time to begin your journey in this exciting and dynamic sport.
Many top fencers started in their teens, making this the perfect age to develop the physical, mental, and strategic skills that fencing demands. Whether you're looking for a competitive outlet, a unique fitness challenge, or a path to college recruiting, The Squire Program is your first step.
Why Start Fencing as a Tween/Teen?
At this stage of development, teenagers possess the ideal combination of physical and mental readiness to excel quickly in fencing:
- ⚡ Rapid Skill Acquisition: Your cognitive abilities are sharp, making it easier to grasp the complex strategy and footwork required. Teens can quickly translate instruction into muscle memory.
- 🧠 Strategic Maturity: Fencing is often described as "physical chess." As a teen, you have the analytical and decision-making skills to out-think your opponent on the strip.
- 💪 Peak Athleticism: You are in a prime stage of physical development, allowing you to build explosive speed, endurance, and precise coordination quickly.
- 🎯 College Opportunities: Starting now gives you enough time to develop your skills, compete in tournaments, and potentially become a recruit for top university fencing programs.
